I. Understanding
Guided by humanitarian and social objectives, the Lestari Mandorak Foundation aims at preserving the Kodi tribe’s traditions and ancestral knowledge; protecting the environment from all forms of pollution as well as safeguarding Mandorak’s flora and fauna; and fostering economic development, not only in Mandorak but also in the surrounding villages (share of good practice).
II. Background
Several factors can be accounted for global warming, a source of discomfort and imbalance in the Kodis lives, among which human carelessness to preserve the natural and cultural surroundings.
The Foundation’s goal is to protect the Kodis ancestral heritage while helping the tribe achieve decent living conditions (facilities, health, clothing, food and knowledge); to generate a love for the environment, disgust for all forms of pollution in general- and especially for the dangers of plastic and fish-bombing- and strong will to keep their original flora and fauna.
III. Vision and Mission
Vision
- To define and encourage eco-friendly reflexes, to arouse a pride in the nation's cultural and natural exceptional heritage,
- To find creative solutions thanks to modern tools adapted to Mandorak’s specificities.
Mission
- To prevent illegal logging,
- To share good practice about preserving the natural surroundings and indigenous heritage,
- To bring modern technologies such as eco-friendly energy (solar panels) and irrigation systems,
- To develop the local economy with such projects as:
• An eco-tourist resort
• A ranch to restore the traditional place of the horses
• Organic agriculture and food
IV. The form of charity efforts:
A. Name of organization: Lestari Mandorak Sumba Foundation

C. The Foundation Address: Kalena Rongo village, northern Kodi districts, West Sumba regency, eastern Indonesian Province of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT)
D. Objectives: The Foundation targets the humanitarian and social fields.
E. Supporting factor: as citizens of the Republic of Indonesia, the Foundation members are willing to participate actively in the National development through activities that maintain her natural and cultural resources, ensuring the next generation has a sense of pride of the nation's heritage and preserves her natural environment as a source of life.
F. Period of time: The Foundation was established for indefinite period of time.
G. Assets;
1. the foundation has the initial wealth derived from separated property of the founder. It is of Rp.10.000.000 (ten million rupiah).
2. in addition to property referred to in paragraph 1, the wealth of foundation can be achieved from;
a. donations or assistance that is not binding
b. charity
c. grants
d. grants will
e. another acquisition, provided it is not contrary to the articles of association or foundation and legislation applicable
The wealth of the Foundation shall only be used to achieve the Foundation's purposes.
V. Program
Lestari Mandorak Foundation programs include a short-term work program (6 to 12 months) and a long-term work program (1 to 5 years).
V.a. Short-term work program activities.
- Making wells for local residents
- Preventing and curing malaria by providing mosquito nets and anti-mosquito cream to the surrounding villages.
- Providing training about plant processing and food processing
- Providing stationery to the nearest school
- Providing appropriate clothing for the people of surrounding villages
Vb. Long-Term program of activities
1. Social and cultural measures
- To restore several abandoned indigenous houses and use them as facilities for Eco Tourism
- To create a ranch to rehabilitate horses in their traditional role of transportation and cultural expression (Pasola)
- To start the conservation of the original tombstones of Sumba
- To make a film about Wanakoka’s adventures (local hero) and other documentary films
- To open a museum of the Kodi tribal culture
2. Environmental measures
Protect the flora, especially native species:
• Native Orchid Sumba
• Native Bonsai Sumba
• Native Sandalwood Tree Sumba
Protect the fauna:
• Restore the coral and the fish diversity
• Breed exotic birds (cockatoo, eagle)
• Create a turtle farm
3. Economical measures
- Starting plantations of vegetables, fruits, rice, corn, etc.
- Organizing business as cooperatives,
- Cultivating medicinal plants and cure the Kodis with natural alternative treatments,
- Developing and promoting their handicrafts (such as Ikat, knives…),
- Developing and marketing the organic cotton for domestic market and abroad.
4. Humanitarian measures
- Welcoming volunteers to provide training in Indonesian and English languages,
- Inviting experts willing to help improve the Kodis’ knowledge and conditions.
5. An eco-tourism project, with:
- An eco-tourist resort to accommodate donators who wish to meet the Kodi and witness the natural beauty of Mandorak; the resort will be eco-friendly equipped (solar technology for lighting).
- New roads to grant better access for the Kodi tribe to the hospital, the markets, etc, and a harbor to create a tourist flow from and to the other Indonesian islands.
- Spiritual retreats, with yoga sessions, meditation groups and self-development seminars in communion with nature (spiritual journey).
The idea is to present Mandorak as a unique tourism destination in Indonesia.
